Hippomobile! is Jeff's first novel for children. Jeff Tapia lived in Germany, Hungary, and the U. S. before settling in Austria with his family. His writing includes plays and short stories in English and German, and Hippomobile!, his first novel for : Jeff Tapia. In his first book for a young audience, Tapia (Deep Tissue, ) shows remarkable ownership of language that his readers will find both hilarious and wise. Peppering the pitch-perfect description and dialogue are phrases like “Stella scraped her prayer bones” and “the biggest linguisters,” and for readers who can’t figure out what those mean, Tapia provides plenty of : Jeff Tapia. With steampunk, tall tale, and just plain silly elements, the story of how ten-year-old twins Jimmy and Stella found out about the unique vehicle called the hippomobile, learned its history, and then used it to rescue their beloved town of Wymore is an original variant on a tried and true theme. Read "Hippomobile!" by Jeff Tapia available from Rakuten Kobo. There are many stories about kid crusaders who save something, but none like this one. With steampunk, tall tale, and ju Brand: HMH Books.

The answer to getting more people in the town seems to be centered around the town’s treasure, a broken hippomobile with a fascinating past. If Jimmy and Stella can find a way to make it work again, maybe they won’t have to leave Wymore after all. In some ways, the book is charming, but it doesn’t meet the needs of its intended audience. Hippomobile! We rated this book: $ Twins Jimmy and Stella live in a town called Wymore, where nothing exciting ever really happens. Usually the book is written from the perspective of the omniscient "we". Now overall, I do think that the author is a pretty good tall tale style storyteller. The entire book is written in a country slang, which may be difficult for reluctant readers to absorb quickly. That part did make the "read aloud" easier, I natcherly fell inta muh Texsus /5. Jeff Tapia grew up near St. Louis and studied German at Brown University. As a writer interested in many genres, Jeff has published plays and stories in German, a collection of short stories entitled Deep Tissue (Livingston Press, ), and the warmly received middle grade novel Hippomobile!/5(15).
